Why Mostar still matters
The Old Bridge (Stari Most) is Bosnia's postcard — Ottoman engineering rebuilt after war destruction, divers in summer, cobbled old bazaar spilling toward the Neretva. A Mostar day trip from Sarajevo is long but doable; combining it with Blagaj, Počitelj, and Kravice makes the drive worth every minute.
Going independently vs on a tour
Independent: rent a car, leave by 7 a.m., accept navigation stress and parking hunts in Mostar old town.
Organised tour: door-to-door pickup, guide narrative, timed entries, swim stop logistics at Kravice — better value for most visitors unless you love driving Balkan highways alone.
Typical tour sequence
- Early pickup in Sarajevo
- Počitelj — short climb, fortress views
- Blagaj — Buna river spring and cliff-side tekke
- Mostar — Old Bridge, free time, lunch in the bazaar
- Kravice waterfalls — swim Jul–Sep if weather allows
- Return Sarajevo early evening
Packing and timing
Passport if your route crosses entity lines with checks (uncommon but possible). Swimwear and towel in summer. Cash for market snacks. Comfortable shoes for Počitelj stones. More day-trip options: day trips from Sarajevo. Week-long context: 7-day itinerary.
