Tito’s Nuclear Bunker ARK D-0

A Cold War Secret Beneath Bosnia

Discover Tito’s Nuclear Bunker (ARK D-0) in Konjic—one of Yugoslavia’s best-kept Cold War secrets. Explore underground tunnels, war command rooms, and relics of Socialist Yugoslavia. Guided tour from Sarajevo. Reservation required.

Step deep into one of the most fascinating and best-kept secrets of the Cold War era—Tito’s Nuclear Bunker (ARK D-0), hidden beneath the mountains of central Bosnia. Located near the town of Konjic, this massive underground facility was built in total secrecy to protect Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito and his closest aides in the event of a nuclear attack.

Constructed between 1953 and 1979, buried inside Zlatar Hill at the foothills of Bjelašnica Mountain, the bunker stretches over 6,500 square meters and is made up of residential quarters, command rooms, offices, strategy halls, and communication centers. It was designed to withstand a 20-kiloton nuclear blast and ensure full government continuity for up to 350 people for several months.

For decades, ARK D-0 remained a top-secret military installation—only a handful of high-ranking officers even knew it existed. The public only became aware of its existence after the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Today, this Cold War relic stands as a time capsule, preserved in its original condition with all symbols of Socialist Yugoslavia still intact.

This tour offers an exclusive, guided visit to the bunker, providing rare insights into the military strategy, political paranoia, and architectural ambition of a bygone era. A must-see for history lovers, Cold War enthusiasts, and curious travelers.
